For a long time, I "paid" for acceptance by saying yes to everything. I went to dinners I didn’t want to attend and agreed with opinions I didn’t share. The "bill" always came later in the form of burnout and resentment. I can't afford to trade my authenticity for a seat at the table anymore.
There’s a specific kind of stress that comes with trying to keep up with everyone else. Whether it’s the latest tech or a lifestyle that looks good on social media, the maintenance fee for a life you can’t truly sustain is too high. I’m choosing "affordable" peace over "expensive" anxiety.
