The series is set in the multicultural atmosphere of pre-war Lviv (1930s) and post-war Wrocław. It follows , a brilliant but brutal detective inspector known as "Łyssy" (The Bald).
The season begins in May 1939 with a gruesome murder of a young boy, Henio Pytka, which fuels anti-Semitic tension in Lviv. Popielski is reluctantly drawn back into police work to find the killer amidst the impending shadow of World War II.
