The story begins in 1985 at Marmara University in Istanbul. Four students, shaped by the shadow of the 1980 military coup, decided that silence was no longer an option. Among their most iconic works is the rendition of the (May Day March). Originally composed by Sarper Özsan for a play based on Maxim Gorky's The Mother , the song evolved under Grup Yorum into a soaring anthem for International Workers' Day. The song's lyrics speak to a specific hope:
