Based on a 2018 article by Jason Fagone, the film follows Jerry Selbee (Bryan Cranston), a retired math whiz in a small Michigan town who discovers a mathematical loophole in the "WinFall" lottery. Jerry realizes that by buying enough tickets during "Roll-Down" weeks, he is statistically guaranteed a profit. Rather than keeping the riches for himself, he and his wife Marge (Annette Bening) involve their entire struggling community to help revitalize their town.
