Suddenly, the music screeched to a halt. The steam cleared, dissolving back into the sterile grey walls of the interrogation room.

She looked up and saw Christopher. He wasn't the tired, balding, stressed man she had seen in the holding cell. He was her dashing leading man, wearing a fedora tilted perfectly over his eyes. Susan looked at the detective, her eyes glazed but fiercely determined. She straightened her cardigan and folded her hands neatly on the table.

When she opened them, the cold grey room was gone. She was no longer wearing her drab, oversized wool cardigan. Instead, she was dressed in a pristine, tailored 1940s trench coat. The harsh fluorescent hum had been replaced by the rich, sweeping violins of a classic Hollywood orchestra. We saved each other

Lancing leaned forward, casting a long shadow over the table. "You buried them in the back garden, Susan. You and Christopher dug a hole and put them in the dirt like old trash. That's not surviving. That's murder."
