The film begins in West Berlin, where Bruno Stroszek (Bruno S.) is released from prison and warns to stay sober. After he and his friend Eva (Eva Mattes), a prostitute, are repeatedly harassed by her pimps, they join Bruno's neighbor, the elderly and peculiar Mr. Scheitz (Clemens Scheitz), to start a new life in rural Wisconsin.
