The film follows the story of Nikolai Komlev, a Soviet pilot during WWII whose plane is shot down behind enemy lines. He must survive the harsh winter wilderness, packs of wolves, and Nazi search parties to return to safety. It is inspired by the real-life story of legendary pilot Aleksey Maresyev.
